I’ve photographed several births in hospitals and birth centres and they are always amazing. But I was extra excited for this birth, as it was the first home birth I’ve ever documented and I was interested to see how different it would be to what I was used to.
I arrived at La Shae’s house at 8:30pm and her contractions were beginning to get intense. She worked through them with the support of her partner, Adam, and her 3 lovely midwives (Ange and Clare from The Nest of Moruya and Marie from Midwyf Servies). Her 1 year old baby girl was asleep in the next room and slept the whole night – through all the action!
After 3 hours of labour, Embry John entered the world. Born in the water, in one of the most peaceful and controlled births I have witnessed. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room as La Shae lifted him to her chest and he let out his first, sweet little cry.
I documented Embry’s birth with photography and film and I’ve put together some of the photos of his birth below. If you’re interested to see the video of his birth, that’s attached at the bottom too – but make sure you have the tissues ready because it’s an emotional one! I’ve watched it about 50 times and still cry every time.
A huge thank you to La Shae and Adam for trusting me to tell the story of Embry’s birth, for welcoming me in to their home and for allowing me to share these images and video with you all!
