Watching their souls dance together through each wave of contractions,
I was reminded exactly why I do this job.
I walked in to one of the most relaxed birthing rooms of my career. Jaime was laughing and chatting in between contractions, pausing every few minutes to breathe through the surges. Her lovely husband Darian was by her side, holding a heat pack to her back and her mum was there watching on. Letting them have their moment while providing the kind of support that only a mum can. The most calming presence.
Jaime’s surges built over the next few hours and she worked through them like a rockstar. Breathing and swaying and leaning on Darian, who didn’t take his eyes off her the entire time. Watching their souls dance together through each wave of contractions, working as a team to bring their son in to this world, I was reminded exactly why I do this job. There is nothing in the whole world like witnessing a woman labour to birth a new life.
Just before midnight, in one of the quickest transitions I have ever seen, Jaime delivered her baby boy. She went from laying against the hospital bed with her eyes closed, to pushing on her knees, without barely a sound. Jaime delivered Henry in less than a minute and I don’t think anyone could quite believe how quickly he’d arrived.
There is so much I could say about how incredible this day was, how amazing Jaime was and how much love filled the room as Henry entered in, but I will let the photos speak for themselves. I hope you all love these as much as I do.
